Setting up your own factory naturally begins with coming up with a good company name. Once that has been entered, the topics in which pupils must make choices are introduced. For example, which packaging they will use for their paint. Will it be made in their factory from petroleum or recycled plastic? Or perhaps from plants or metal? The choices pupils make have consequences in terms of climate and the environment, price, quality, and the factory’s opening date. It then takes a fair bit of puzzling to arrive at an acceptable outcome. Thanks to the clear explanations accompanying each choice, pupils gain knowledge about current sustainable developments.
‘The Sustainable Factory’ is suitable for upper primary school and the first year of secondary school. It is also highly recommended for use as a guest lesson. Clear instructions are included, allowing you to deliver the lesson with ease. With ‘The Sustainable Factory’, C3 adds a new lesson to its series of interactive whiteboard lessons for primary schools, centred on inquiry-based and design-led learning through chemistry. The lesson is available free of charge at c3.nl/ontdekchemie/lessen/de-duurzame-fabriek.
‘The Sustainable Factory’ was made possible thanks to financial and substantive contributions from PPG, the science faculties of Dutch universities, the Royal VNCI, and the VVVF.
