Call for nominations for the NVBMB Prize 2023

The NVBMB invites everyone to nominate candidates for the NVBMB Prize 2023. The NVBMB Prize has been awarded since 1981 to recognise the work of highly talented young, independent biochemists and molecular biologists working in the Netherlands. The prize amounts to €2,000, and includes additional funds to organise a one-day scientific meeting on a subject that aligns with the candidate’s area of interest. Nominees for the NVBMB Prize must have at least two years of postdoctoral experience, preferably including experience abroad. Nominations will be assessed on scientific quality, publication track record, productivity, creativity, international experience, and visibility. Please submit nominations for the NVBMB Prize 2023 by e-mail to the secretary of the NVBMB, Dr Hugo van Ingen (h.vaningen@uu.nl), before 31 December 2022. Nominations should include a brief CV, a list of publications, and a short description of scientific achievements (maximum one page).

Visit nvbmb.kncv.nl/prizes/nvbmb-prize for more information about the prize, previous winners, and further details on the procedure.

NVBMB Autumn Symposium:

The expanding world of biological one-carbon fixation – made by nature & engineers

The 2022 NVBMB Autumn Symposium will take place on Monday 5 December 2022 in Wageningen. The title of the symposium is ‘The expanding world of biological one-carbon fixation – made by nature & engineers’. A total of seven renowned speakers from the Netherlands and abroad will present their work. With one-carbon fixation as the central theme, the specific topics range from autotrophic CO2 fixation; methane as a carbon source for anaerobic metabolism; and CO2 fixation in the context of photosynthesis through synthetic biology, to bacterial C1 fixation in ‘all the colours of the rainbow’ and the conversion of E. coli to produce biomass carbon from CO2.

The organiser of the symposium, and winner of the NVBMB Prize 2022, Dr Nico Claassens, will himself deliver a lecture entitled: ‘Experiences and challenges in engineering C1-metabolism’.

All information about the symposium, the venue, and the programme can be found at nvbmb.kncv.nl/symposia.
